‘Mysterious death’:  Elderly couple found dead – husband had gun in hand

‘Mr De Bruin had a visible a gunshot wound in his head with a firearm in his hands whilst Mrs De Bruin sustained visible gunshot wounds on her chest and ear,’ said police.

The Mpumalanga police are investigating what it referred to as the “mysterious death” of an elderly couple near Carolina. A concerned neighbour found the husband and wife dead with bullet wounds.

ELDERLY COUPLE FOUND DEAD AT HOME

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the bodies of Martin Marias De Bruin, 83, and his wife, Marriam Magdeline De Bruin, 73, were found at their farm home near Carolina on Wednesday, 28 September.

The police and emergency medical services were summoned to the scene at approximately 22:00 on Wednesday after a neighbouring farmer went to check on the couple after he could not get hold of them via telephone.

The neighbour reportedly thought nothing was amiss at the scene until he peered through the bedroom window and saw the dead man and woman lying in a pool of blood on their couch.

 “Mr De Bruin had a visible a gunshot wound in his head with a firearm in his hands whilst Mrs De Bruin sustained visible gunshot wounds on her chest and ear,” said the police spokesperson.

The elderly couple were certified dead at the scene and a team of investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding their death.

Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela condemned the incident and said the investigation would reveal the truth about what happened.
