Boksburg accident: What we know

The driver reportedly “ran over the women – one a security guard who was assisting to get people into the clinic at the civic centre, and the other a clinic patient”.

The Ekurhuleni City bus came to halt after it “crashed into the palisade fencing” at the Civic Centre. The bus was empty at the time of impact and the driver was transported to the hospital.

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini confirmed that two pedestrians were killed, and said the bus had not hit the local clinic where the guard worked.

“Please note that one of your unroadworthy buses failed to stop, hit and killed my sister at Boksburg Civic Center this morning”.

Investigation underway

In addition, Nomadlozi Nkosi – the City’s Member of the Mayoral Committee on Health and Social Development – said the accident is being investigated.

“The investigators are still investigating as to what happened. We empathise with the families of the two ladies that have been killed. One was a frontline worker who was a security guard at the clinic and the other a patient who came to the clinic”.

According to the SA Trucker, the “bus allegedly lost brakes before crashing into the people”.
