It’s thanks to Nelson Mandela that we even have a democracy to speak of in the first place. But the icon of the ANC may not have seen this potential switch coming. The EFF’s National Chairperson Dali Mpofu has taken to Twitter, claiming that two new voters are now “very close” to changing their allegiances to the EFF.

Of course, with Monday being April Fool’s Day, Mpofu could easily have been on the wind-up. But the star lawyer and party executive came equipped with the receipts. Zenani and Zindzi Mandela posed for photos with the politician-come-lawyer, with both daughters supporting an official EFF hat:

Mpofu stated he was out campaigning in Orlando West, Gauteng, before paying a very special visit to Madiba’s children. He even had the cheek to poke fun at Cyril Ramaphosa, stealing his newly-coined “watch this space” slogan to triumph the alleged PR victory for the opposition party.

The EFF has long claimed that they are the only party who represent the best interest of Mandela’s values. The organisation have been particularly vocal about the late Winnie Mandela, who lost her life one year ago.

Julius Malema and his comrades held their own emotional memorial for the struggle icon and blasted the ANC for failing their former first lady. The EFF has recently been campaigning to have Cape Town International Airport named after Ma’ Winnie, too.

Who are Nelson Mandela’s daughters?

In 2012, Zenani Mandela succeeded Tony Leon as the Ambassador to Argentina for South Africa. This was an iconic appointment, as she became the first of Madiba’s kids to enter into the world of politics. After a successful five-year spell with the South American country, She then became the High Commissioner to Mauritius.

Zindzi Mandela, meanwhile, carries out her own diplomatic duties and currently serves as the Ambassador to Denmark. She was also picked to be South Africa’s first lady after Nelson’s divorce from Winnie, and she served her country diligently for three years, before until Graca Machel married her father and took on the official duties.
