Inclement weather leaves parts of Eastern Cape without electricity

Eskom says inclement weather conditions in the Eastern Cape have disrupted the supply of electricity in parts of the province.

Eskom says inclement weather conditions have left various parts of the Eastern Cape without electricity.

This comes as snow and rain have battered parts of the province as predicted by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

SEVERE WEATHER DISRUPTS ELECTRICITY SUPPLY IN THE EASTERN CAPE

Eskom said its technicians are working around the clock to safely restore electricity supply in areas that include Joe Gqabi, Chris Hani, Alfred Nzo and OR Tambo District Municipalities.

The power utility also urged impacted customers to treat all electricity appliances as live during this time.

DISRUPTIVE SNOW IN THE EC

The SA weather service had issued an Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive snow for the Eastern Cape.

As previously reported by The South African, a cold front made a landfall on Friday and spread to other parts of the country over the weekend.

Some roads in the Eastern Cape were closed due to the inclement werather conditions accompanied by snowfall.

Due to the snow, the provincial Department of Transport closed the R61 Wappasberg pass, between Graaff-Reinet and Cradock on Monday morning, 10 July 2023.

SAWS had warned that some road network and mountain passes connecting communities on the southern Drakensberg in the Eastern Cape could be closed following the potential disruptive snow on the roads and railways, especially during the morning hours.
