Police confirm the woman allegedly jumped off the bridge

According to Mbele’s witness statements, the victim and three friends decided to hike near Giba Gorge in Hillcrest on Friday evening.

Mbele said that the friends, as well as the victim were allegedly intoxicated. After the hike, it is believed that the woman called her boyfriend to fetch her from where they were.

The woman and her three friends were apparently walking along the N3 bridge — the friends slightly ahead of her when they heard her say behind them: “I’m killing myself.”

According to their statements, the turned around and saw her body falling down the bridge.

Mbele said that Metro Search and Rescue were on the scene to assess the woman’s injuries. They transported her to a nearby hospital where she was later declared dead.

Suspicion of her boyfriend flinging her off the bridge

According to earlier reports, the woman’s boyfriend allegedly flung her off the bridge after the pair had an argument. When Mbele was asked about this, she confirmed that it was untrue.

“According to witness statements, the boyfriend wasn’t even there,” said Mbele.

An inquest docket has been opened by police.

Murder suicide in Durban in separate incident

Kresen Chandia (24) and Fathima Muhammad (50) were discovered just after 16:00 in November 2019, after a recycling official raised the alarm. The authorities rushed to the scene, and a murder investigation was opened.

The wounds found on the 24-year-old appear to be self-inflicted. Meanwhile, the knife that Chandia had upon his person was the same one used to fatally stab Muhammed. Jay Naicker is a representative of SAPS in Durban, and he confirmed that a murder-suicide was the most likely occurrence.

“The post-mortem was done last Thursday. The pathologist has said the wound was self-inflicted. The knife used was taken from Kresen’s home, and discovered upon his person. They will take their motivations to their graves – the family aren’t aware of the relationship the pair had.”
