As Christmas rolls around the corner, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) issues driver safety tips to combat the escalating road fatalities witnessed during the holidays.

The focus remains on the top 10 most dangerous stretches of road, particularly in the Eastern Cape, with the R573 Moloto Road in Mpumalanga identified as the riskiest.

DRIVING SAFETY TIPS FOR THE FESTIVE

The RTMC advises holiday travelers to prioritize rest, promote a good night’s sleep before embarking on long journeys, and take regular breaks every two hours or 200 km.

Emphasising sobriety and patience, the corporation underscores the dangers of alcohol consumption and road rage, reported Business Tech.

Additionally, the RTMC highlights the vulnerability of pedestrians, urging heightened awareness and patience when encountering various road users, including cyclists and motorbikes.

SOME ROAD SECURITY TIPS:

• Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy before undertaking your trip.

• Motorists are not to drive without a valid driver’s licence.
