Driving license FRAUD busted

Four accused driving license fraudsters were arrested, as they were running a shortcut fraud of obtaining a driver’s license.

Four accused driving license fraudsters were arrested, and are scheduled to appear before the King Williamstown, Eastern Cape magistrate court today.

An applicant, a manager who also serves as a license examiner, two runners, and a license examiner make up the four.

Where were the driving license fraudsters arrested?

They were apprehended as they were writing the learner’s permit test for absent learners. They were caught in a classroom where the test was being administered. The applicant allegedly sat around in class while the tests were being written for him by someone else.

Members of the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit heard of the scam. After discovering that examiners at the license center were reportedly conspiring with driving school instructors to permit runners.

“The anti-corruption proceeded to conduct an in loco inspection at the centre and discovered that the examiner had allegedly unlawfully allowed runners into the classroom to write test.

“One suspect was allegedly writing on behalf of four applicants including a foreign national and another was writing on behalf of one absent applicant. One suspect had a large sum of money in her possession,” said the RTMC.

It is stated that R2500 is charged to learners license applicants to have the test written on their behalf. The purported division of the funds is between the examiner, who receives R1500, and the runner, who receives R1000.

Four applicants who sought to gain from this fraudulent activities are being followed up on as part of the investigation.

RTMC plea to the public

The Road Traffic Management Corporation requests that the public report any instances of fraud or corruption by sending a WhatsApp message to the number 083 293 7989 or by sending an email to the address ntacu@rtmc.co.za. The strictest level of confidentiality will be maintained at all times.
