KZN driver crushed to death by cement truck in a freak accident

A driver who parked a truck carrying ready to mix cement in a steep driveway was crushed to death in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal.

A 47-year-old driver was killed after he was crushed by a cement truck he was driving on Phaphama Avenue in Newton B, Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal. 

The incident happened on Friday afternoon, 21 July. 

DRIVER CRUSHED BY CEMENT TRUCK 

According to private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) and its members were on scene around 20:00 where the body of the deceased was trapped under the rear wheels of the Mercedes Benz cement mixer.

RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said according to witnesses, the deceased was standing behind the truck that was parked on a steep driveway. 

“He was in the process of offloading ready mix concrete when the truck started to roll. He allegedly tried to stop the truck but fell and was crushed by the rear tyres. The vehicle came to a stop on top of him after it struck a house,” Balram explained.

MAN KILLED IN A FREAK ACCIDENT

In a separate incident, a 56-year-old man was killed in a freak accident when he was crushed by his vehicle on Inca Drive in Everest Heights also in KwaZulu-Natal.

RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said upon arrival, a white Ford Sierra was located on a driveway, lying on its side with the driver trapped underneath. It was alleged that the deceased was in the process of parking his vehicle when it overturned on the driver’s side.

The man suffered life-threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries on scene.
