Like the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup, Dricus has united South Africans as many rallied behind him to win the tightly contested fight.

South Africans have hailed the newly crowned UFC champion, Dricus du Plessis who delivered a victory against fan-favourite Sean Strickland at the UFC 297 pay-per-view on Saturday.
Like the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup last year, Dricus has united South Africans as many rallied behind him to win the tightly contested fight.
To celebrate the fight, some fans and politicians have thrown shade at the government for failing to deliver like our sportsmen.
Cllr Theo Doyle said, “South Africa, let’s do this to the ANC at the ballot box come election day, knock them out”.

John Steenhuisen said, “On behalf of the DA, I would like to congratulate Dricus ‘Stillknocks’ du Plessis on his historic victory. South Africa is proud of the grit and determination that you showed for five full rounds today.

Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa also congratulated the champ.
“South Africans, we have a UFC Champion. Congratulations Dricus Du Plessis UFC on winning the UFC Middleweight Championship. You have flown the South African flag high and have made us extremely proud! Enjoy the moment,” he said.
But just how much is he set to make?
According to reports, du Plessis is set to make seven figures for UFC 297.
Dricus will likely get $200,000 (R3,775,859.00) as show money, sponsorship money, and a share of the PPV (Pay Per View) sales, which may range around $500,000 (R9,439,647.50).
