Ditlhokwe unfazed about facing pressure at struggling Chiefs

Botswana international Thatayaone Ditlhokwe remains unfazed as he will join a struggling Kaizer Chiefs side next season

Incoming Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe says he is unfazed about facing pressure at his new club that is seriously struggling.

Dilthokwe joined Kaizer Chiefs in the January transfer window and signed a pre-contract with Arthur Zwane’s troops – he spoke about his expectations at his new club.

The Botswana international, Ditlhokwe says he has experienced pressure in his career and learned to adjust whilst captaining his country.

DITLHOKWE ON FACING PRESSURE AT KAIZER CHIEFS

The experienced centre-back, Ditlhokwe is set to team up with his new Kaizer Chiefs teammates ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

Speaking on joining a club that is struggling and looking to return to glory days, the seasoned campaigner, Ditlhokwe is aware that playing for Chiefs does come with lots of pressure and he is ready.

“I have captained my national team at the age of 21 so I don’t think there’s any pressure that can [surpass] what I have been already through,” Ditlhokwe said during the club’s awards ceremony.

“It’s just a normal challenge that every player can face. There’s no player that can grow without challenges — you need to be tested.

“It’s a big test, I know but at the end of the day the same way I managed before is the same way I’m going to manage at Chiefs.”

DITLHOKWE ON HONOURING HIS CONTRACT AT SUPERSPORT

The Zebras international was allowed to carry on to don the blue and white SuperSport jersey under coach Gavin Hunt, he has stressed the importance of remaining professional.

The 24-year-old former Township Rollers star, Ditlhokwe will join struggling Amakhosi as they have endured another season without any silverware.

 “I think at the end of the day, you must remain professional regardless of what you have in front of you because they always say, ‘Never burn the bridges’,” Ditlhokwe added.

“The most important thing I took into consideration is that I was still at SuperSport and still had a running contract I had to honour until the end of it so that when I left the club I did so in peace.” 

Looking at his statistics for Matsatsantsa, Ditlhokwe featured in 27 matches across all competitions while scoring two goals in the past term.
