Pappas is one of the youngest leaders in the province at just the age of 32.

Since taking office in November 2021, Pappas has been able to turn the municipalities finances around to ensure the municipal’s books have a positive balance for the first time in over a decade.

Pappas also ensured the municipality collected its outstanding debt from residents and recovered around R25million. Other measures included a pinch of the municipality’s growing wage bill by reducing the hiring process.

PAPPAS, KZN’S BEACON OF HOPE

In making the announcement, Steenhuisen described Pappas as a shining beacon.

“Pappas is a dynamic young leader who walks the walk and has made the uMngeni municipality a shining beacon on the hill while the rest of KZN lies in ruin” the DA leader said.

“The time has come to kick the ANC out of KZN and that Chris Pappas was the man to lead that mission and provide hope where the ANC has only provided misery, hunger, maladministration, and poverty” Steenhuisen adds.

Steenhuisen also took the charge to encourage South African citizens to register to vote.

” Change will only happen when those who complain about the sewerage on the beaches, unemployment, corruption, and everything else that is wrong, register to vote.”
