Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday categorically denied accusations by a former model who says the soccer star raped her in a Las Vegas hotel penthouse suite in 2009.

The 33-year-old addressed the matter via his Twitter page, expressing his outright disdain for the “abominable crime” of rape and stating that his conscience is clear:

“I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. My clear conscious (sic) will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations.”

Kathryn Mayorga, 34, of Las Vegas, accused Ronaldo, in a 32-page complaint filed last month with a district court in Nevada, of raping her on 13 June 2009.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed in a statement that didn’t name the superstar it had responded to a call of a sexual assault on that date. You can read more about the accusations here.
