Former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates striker Thamsanqa Gabuza’s legal troubles continue to mount as his case was postponed for further investigation. EX CHARGES GABUZA WITH HEAVY ALLEGATIONS

Gabuza’s ex-girlfriend alleges that the soccer player damaged three of her cellphones and a laptop during an altercation last month, November. The total value of the destroyed property is estimated to be around R50,000. This is not the first time Gabuza has faced similar accusations. In 2017, while playing for the Buccaneers, he was accused of damaging his then-girlfriend’s belongings and fleeing with valuables worth R40,000.

Yesterday’s court hearing was adjourned shortly after it began as the state prosecutor informed the court that investigations were still ongoing. Gabuza’s lawyer, Themba Ngobeni, assured the court that his client would cooperate fully with the proceedings and would not miss any future court dates. According to Sunday World, Gabuza is currently out on bail of R3,000.

The state prosecutor had initially requested bail to be set at R5,000, but Ngobeni argued that the amount was excessive, citing Gabuza’s uncertain financial situation as he awaits his next salary.

WHAT HAPPENED THAT DAY?

Zimoja reports that, according to the police, Gabuza visited his ex-girlfriend at her home in Sandton last month and allegedly requested sex. Upon being refused, Gabuza reportedly became aggressive and attempted to force himself upon her. The victim managed to break free and run to the lounge, only to be pursued by Gabuza, who, in a fit of rage, snatched and smashed her cellphones against the wall.

Gabuza’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 19th, when the results of the ongoing investigation are expected to be presented. The case was adjourned as investigations are incomplete and a verdict cannot be reached yet. But regardless of what the final verdict may be, the outcome of the case is bound to leave a permanent ugly stain on Gabuza’s personal and professional track record.
