CORRUPTION allegations surround premier candidate Chris Pappas

KZN Premier candidate Chris Pappas says ANC member Sizwe Mchunu is threaten by his nomination after he accused Pappas of corruption

The Democratic Alliance’s KwaZulu-Natal Premier Candidate for the 2024 general elections Chris Pappas, has come under fire on social media with allegations of corruption.


The uMngeni Municipality Mayor has been accused of siphoning money from the municipality through to his fiancé’s NPO, uMngeni Tourism by for DA KZN leader Sizwe Mchunu.

In a letter to the Public Protector Mchunu, has requested that they investigate allege nepotism and corruption happening within the uMngeni Municipality.

Mchunu questions JP Prinsloo (Pappas’ fiance’s) quick rise within the NPO, swiftly assuming the position of chairperson soon after his arrival.

Prinsloo was previously a ward councillor in eThekwini Municipality, where upon his resignation, siting his reasons as wanting to advance his business career.

Among other allegations include a R100 000 cash injection the NPO received from the municipality just before it closed for the 2022 festive season.

“Besides this being a precendent that has never occurred in uMngeni Municipality, the amount granted to Prinsloo’s organisation far exceeds any of the grants given to the other entities advocating for exactly a similar venture” Mchunu states.

In an interview with uKhozi FM, Pappas did acknowledge that his fiance is part of the NPO and that it receives funding, however, the mayor says the NPO had been in existence and receiving funding from the municipality from before he assumed office.

Pappas however says the ANC is threatened by him and go as far as raising allegations without any evidence.

“Bangisaba kangaka bakhipha izindaba ezingenabufakazi” says Pappas.
