Full to capacity: City of Tshwane to close these cemeteries
The Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa Cemeteries in the City of Tshwane will be closed. Where can residents in these areas bury their loved ones?

The City of Tshwane says the Ga-Rankuwa and Mabopane Cemeteries will close in early 2024 as they are almost full to capacity.
This was confirmed on Wednesday, 6 December.
CITY OF TSHWANE TO CLOSE CEMETERIES
In a statement, the City of Tshwane said the closure of the two cemeteries follows a recent study which confirmed that they are reaching their capacity limit.
The municipality said the lifespan for the Mabopane Cemetery is anticipated to come to an end by February 2024, however, this depends on the number of burials. Should the number be higher than anticipated, the lifespan might end in January 2024.
The Ga-Rankuwa Cemetery’s lifespan is estimated to be end of March 2024, however, it might end sooner should the number of anticipated burials be higher.

WHERE ARE THE NEAREST SITES?
The City of Tshwane said that burials will be conducted at the Klip-Kruisfontein Cemetery which is the nearest facility that can service the surrounding areas currently.
The Klip-Kruisfontein Cemetery is located on the Ruth First Road off-ramp and close to the Soshanguve Crossing Mall.
