The Cape Town Traffic Services have arrested 146 people in the past week. Officers issued 60 928 fines for various offences, 85 vehicles were impounded and 262 cell phones were confiscated.

From those arrested, 128 had outstanding warrants and officers executed 3 961 warrants in total.

Our traffic officers are taking a hard line on holding people accountable for their actions, so do the right thing and settle your fines.”

Cape Town: Drag racing was stopped in its’ tracks

Traffic officers conducted a drag racing operation in the Rondebosch and Crawford area On Saturday, 24 August. Three suspects were arrested, one for reckless driving, one for driving under the influence of alcohol and one for resisting arrest. The Metro Police managed an Operation Cobra in Mitchell’s Plain and Manenberg, where seven suspects were arrested in drug-related crimes and the officers confiscated the illegal substances.

The Metro Police Department arrested 16 drivers for drunk driving, 18 suspects on crimes related to robbery, illegal possession of drugs, and the possession of stolen goods.

The Metro Police invaded Khayelitsha and conducted crime prevention and by-law operation, where officers issued 114 fines for various by-law contraventions.

A teenager was arrested for trespassing during a school search over the weekend

The South African Police Service and the Metro Police K9 unit undertook a random school search at Macassar High School over the weekend. A 16-year-old was caught trespassing, and after being searched seven dagga cigarettes were found in his possession. On a patrol, seven more dagga cigarettes were found deserted on the school premises.

On Sunday, 25 August officers stopped and screened 27 vehicles at a checkpoint in Mandela Park. From the stopped vehicles, 16 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence. In Gordon’s Bay, a vehicle checkpoint was set up too and 44 traffic fines were issued to motorists for various contraventions.

The South African Police Service conducted a crime-prevention operation in Ocean View and Masiphumelele. One panga and an air rifle were found deserted. Arrests of seven suspects were made for various crimes, which included the illegal possession of a dangerous weapon, drugs, stolen goods, and a fake firearm.
