Cape Town International Airport saw a whopping 317 000 two-way international passengers through its gates this past December 2023.

Cape Town International Airport bounces back

With signs of recovery extremely great, Wesgro and Cape Town Air Access recently announced record-breaking numbers in two-way passenger traffic at Cape Town International Airport’s international terminal over the December holidays.

As reported by Tourism Update, during December, more than 317 000 two-way international passengers travelled through the airport.

This figure is now recorded as the highest monthly total Cape Town airport has ever seen, beating the previous high of 290 000 passengers processed in January 2020.

Almost three million international passengers in 2023

In addition to these numbers, Wesgro also revealed that the total two-way international passenger figures for 2023 have almost doubled over the past decade from 1.5 million recorded in 2013.

“These outstanding figures highlight the robustness and diversity of our destination, showcasing the success of our marketing efforts and strategic partnerships.” James Vos, City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth said.

“The authenticity in our marketing allowed us to present the rich variety of offerings to a global audience, both new and returning travellers,” Vos added.

Regional General Manager for Cape Town International Airport Cluster, Mark Maclean, added that they were very happy with the numbers because of its direct impact on trade and tourism.

“We will now focus on the coming weeks as passengers return home, and the remainder of the peak season. We are forecasting continued high passenger volumes as our visitors enjoy the summer.”
