Axed Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane sworn in as EFF MP
Former Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane recently joined the EFF and has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament.

Axed Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament representing the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Mkhwebane was sworn in on Friday, 20 October.
BUSISIWE MKHWEBANE SOWRN IN AS EFF MP
In a briefing earlier this week, Mkhwebane said she voluntarily joined the EFF without motive or personal gain, and all material benefit, adding she understands that she is not entitled to any position or deployment.
“I will participate in the life of the Economic Freedom Fighters, to strive towards total emancipation of South Africa, Africa, and the oppressed of the world,” she said.

Mkhwebane was officially sworn in as an EFF MP on Friday.
“Advocate Mkhwebane boasts a rich history in civil service, including key roles as a Senior Researcher for the SAHRC, Senior Investigator in the Office of the Public Protector, and Director in the Department of Home Affairs,” the party said.

WHY WAS THE FORMER PP AXED?
On 13 September this year, Mkhwebane became the first head of a Chapter 9 institution to be axed.
This came after on 11 September the National Assembly debated over the Section 194 Committee’s Report with over 300 Members of Parliament voting for Mkhwebane to be sacked.
In February 2020, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Parliament submitted the motion to institute removal proceedings against Mkhwebane, citing a number of scathing court judgements against her, particularly relating to some of her investigations, including the Estina Dairy probe.
In March 2021, Parliament voted in support of establishing the committee after adopting a report by a panel of experts, which found there were grounds for an investigation into the public protector’s fitness to hold office.

Following the final adoption of the Section 194 Committee’s report, the EFF, ATM and UDM said the report is the outcome of a process they deem flawed, irrational and influenced by undue manipulations, beginning with a predetermined objective.
