Budding swimmer sponsored for Portugal competition

Funded 10-year-old- Esona Sekeleni, a budding swimmer from the Eastern Cape, is set to compete with the greats in Portugal

Ten-year-old- Esona Sekeleni, a budding swimmer from the Eastern Cape has now set her sight on breaking records after her expenses to travel abroad were taken care of by Buffalo City Metro.

BUDDING SWIMMER SPONSORED TO REALISE HER DREAMS

The Buffalo City Metro held a send-off for the 10-year-old swimmer who will be participating in Biathle Championships in Portugal.

The send-off took place at the East London City Hall New Council Chambers on Wednesday, 19 October.

MAYOR COMMENTS ON ESONA’S PORTUGAL TRIP

Speaking during the send-off Acting Executive Mayor Princess Faku said, “Today, I would like to acknowledge our Champ Esona. We want to thank Esona’s parents for Esona. To us Buffalo City you are a winner. We are so proud of you, you are a brave young girl and we know that you will achieve…”

“Buffalo City decided to contribute R24 000 towards Esona’s travelling.”

Adding to that, Pastor Pam Daweti from BCM said, “Esona, you are blessed and your parents are very blessed to have a child like you. Arise and shine this is your season. There is more glory for your season than before. Do not fear, fix your eyes on Jesus …nothing is impossible with our God”.

Asona’s proud mother Sandisiwe Sekeleni thanked the Metro for the sponsorship. “She has made us proud. We are very grateful. Esona is a very shy child but very good at sports. Thank you all so much for all the resources you have provided that made this journey possible …may the good Lord bless you all”.

The World Cup in Portugal will take place from 26 October to 31 October 2022.
