The Western Cape police arrested four suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and dagga in Cape Town in separate incidents recently.

POLICE MAKE SEVERAL ARRESTS IN CAPE TOWN

In one incident, police members were patroling Delft, Cape Town, on Saturday, 1 April. The members headed to an identified address in The Hague Avenue, where they searched the premises and found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Two men – aged 39 and 40 – were arrested on possession charges.

In another incident, police followed-up information related to drug dealing in Mitchells Plain on Sunday. A house in Siberion Street, Rocklands, was searched, and a consignment of dagga and cash was uncovered. A 27-year-old man was arrested.

Elsewhere on Sunday, members patrolling Nyanga received a tip-off about an unknown man in possession of a gun in Zwelitsha.

“They operationalised the information and tactically approached the location on foot. When the male who fitted the description saw the police members, he changed direction and tried to evade an arrest with police members in pursuit.

“They stopped the male in his tracks, searched him, and confiscated a black revolver with ammunition. The 24-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to appear before the Bellville, Mitchells Plain and Athlone Magistrate’s Court on various charges.
