South African hitmaker and global superstar Master KG has thanked his lucky stars Wednesday, after he had a front-row seat to a nightmare scenario. The critically-acclaimed DJ was flying out of Instanbul when he noticed something utterly terrifying – the plane’s engine had caught fire, following a small explosion.

Turkish Airlines flight latest: Plane lands after engine fire

The first thing to establish is that Master KG and everyone else who boarded the aircraft is completely fine. The pilots kept their heads screwed on, and made the decision to circle the airport until they could land with less fuel.

However, this itself was no easy process. Planes are only allowed to land with a certain amount of fuel onboard, and this Turkish Airlines flight had a full tank at take-off – when the problem was first spotted. That meant the flight had to enter an extended holding pattern, only landing FOUR HOURS later when it was safe to do so.

Eish, let’s hope they at least brought the drinks trolley out for a bit. You’d need something strong after seeing this, and the artist behind Jerusalema was able to capture some of the drama on film:

‘I thought it was over! – Master KG relives flight from hell

Master KG was left a little shaken by the incident, but for him, it’s a case of all’s well that ends well. The musician is currently performing in several European cities during his tour, and he thanked both the skillful pilots and ‘divine intervention’ for ensuring that the show would go on.

“Damm this BS Flight with Turkish Airlines. The left-side engine just exploded just after we take off from Istanbul! We had to round for four hours so it could lower the fuel level and land back at the airport…for a minute I thought, it was over! GOD is amazing, big up to the pilots.”
