REMINDER: Expired SASSA gold cards valid until DECEMBER
SASSA grant beneficiaries have been scrambling to renew their expired or expiring Gold cards before the end of December

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has reiterated that the validity of its expired gold cards can now be used until the end of the year. SASSA says the extension is to ensure that all its beneficiaries are able to access their grants.

SASSA BENEFICIARIES’ LAST MINUTE RUSH TO RENEW CARDS
SASSA’s reminder is a welcome relief for its beneficiaries, some of which have been concerned about possibly not receiving their grants as a result of being in possession of the expired or expiring gold cards. Many have been scrambling to renew their cards, which in part, prompted the agency to remind them of the extension.
Those who don’t intend on renewing their SASSA gold cards have the option to either have their grants paid into their personal bank accounts or make of Postbank’s cardless system.
“We also wish to inform our clients that they are also entitled to the payment channel of their choice.They can still visit SASSA offices to change their method of payment so that they can get their monies at their own personal banks. This card can be used at any ATM and merchants,” said SASSA’s Themba Matlou on the agency’s Twitter page.
IMPORTANT NEWS FOR SASSA BENEFICIARIES
The SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards were meant to protect social grants recipients from past financial abuse. Those still using these cards will continue to receive three free purchases transactions per month.
“Post Office branches will continue to provide re-issues of lost and stolen cards and facilitate payments for grant recipients who prefer using biometric verification,” Postbank said at the time.
“So if you have an expired SASSA/Postbank Gold Card, you can rest assured that you will still receive your grants money without any disruption until the end of 2023. This is great news for social grant recipients and we hope this extension brings much-needed relief to those who rely on these grants.”
Postbank
Postbank announced it would be replacing the SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards before the end of December 2023 in line with the directive of the South African Reserve Bank.
