President Cyril Ramaphosa’s office has announced the appointment of Vincent Magwenya as his new spokesperson. Magwenya formally replaces Khusela Diko, who was forced to step away from office in the wake of a PPE corruption scandal involving her now late husband Thandisizwe Diko.
Diko took a leave of absence in July 2020 from Ramaphosa’s office, pending the SIU’s investigation into a R125 million contract awarded to her husband’s company Royal Bhaca Projects. She has since returned to the Presidency, but took on another role. Tyson Seale, who has been working in the Presidency, took over as Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, in an acting capacity.
In a statement, the Presidency says Magwenya’s appointment is effective from 1 June 2022.
