Planned 8-hour power outage to affect 22 areas in Johannesburg

Parts of Johannesburg will undergo an 8-hour power outage, which will affect more than 20 areas and some streets.

Residents and businesses in the Westfield Substations area are urged to take note of a rescheduled power interruption scheduled for Sunday, 3 December 2023, spanning from 8:00 to 16:00.

This temporary service disruption is imperative to facilitate crucial maintenance work on the power network.

Areas and streets to be affected in Johannesburg

The affected areas, encompassing Acacia, Blackrock, Brandy Bush Road, Brunton Circle, Buffalo Thorn Avenue, Bushwillow, Emerald Boulevard North, Emerald Parkway, Flamingo Shopping, Glaxo Ave, Greenstone Drive, Greenstone Hill, Greenstone Hill Ext 07, 16, 19, 21, 28, 30, Greenstone Shopping Center, Johannesburg Road, Longmeadow, Marula, Rome Ave, Stoneridge Road East, Stone Close, Thornhill Valley, and Westlake View, will experience a temporary power disruption during the maintenance period.

While interruptions are inconvenient, they are necessary to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the power supply.

“This interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on our network which is part of our program of constantly striving to provide better service,” said the entity.

City Power emphasises the importance of treating electricity supply points as live at all times. As the supply may be restored unpredictably during the maintenance window.

“As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live.”

City Power acknowledges the potential inconvenience caused by this interruption. It also apologises for any disruptions.
