A woman believed to be Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s former girlfriend is reportedly under investigation for threatening to kill him, Sunday Times reports. According to the publication, Keith Khoza, a representative of Mashatile, filed charges against businesswoman Gugu Nkosi.

The complaint was allegedly laid with the inspector-general of Intelligence because Mashatile believed that former minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele was encouraging Nkosi to harass him. An affidavit claims Nkosi caused quite the scene outside Mashatile’s home in November last year, blocking the entrance and declaring that her former lover would never become the deputy president.

Earlier this week, screenshots showing Whatsapp messages between a woman and someone purported to be Mashatile have been shared on Twitter.

It isn’t clear if the texts are indeed between the deputy president and a former girlfriend. In the Whatsapp messages, the woman accuses the recipient of lying about her and accusing her of trying to extort them.

“Why are you lying about names while I’ve tried so much to protect you. You’ll curse the you allowed your friends to control … People are calling me that you’ve wrote an article about me trying to extort money from after breaking up. Well I’ve invited them tonight to clarify the matter with facts and evidence,” the texts read in part.

These are just some of the bombshells contained in the news report about the alleged former couple, including a R500 000 monthly allowance. She claimed he sent her between R200 000 and R500 000 a month and had last received a payment in December. The publication reports to have seen bank notifications which support her claims.

Sunday Times also mentions a lengthy conversation between Nkosi and another one of Paul Mashatile’s former girlfriends. Nkosi can apparently be heard threatening to cause a spectacle at his traditional wedding, which was held just a week ago.

“I want him dead! I’ve changed my mission. You were going to hear about me in trhe news that I have killed the deputy president,” she apparently said.

Last week, Mashatile wed his fiancee, Humile Mjongile, the widow of late ANC provincial secretary in the Western Cape, Songezo Mjongile, who died in 2020 due to colon cancer.
