G4S and Integritron Integrated Solutions face tough questions from MPs

On Wednesday, MPs grilled officials from G4S – the multinational security firm in charge of the Mangaung Correctional Centre at the time of Bester’s escape – and Integritron Integrated Solutions – the company responsible for surveillance at the facility.

The Department of Correctional Services, the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) are also expected to make representations to the Committee.

MPS learned that an Integritron technician admitted to switching off the video recorders that would have caught Bester’s escape.

Later on Wednesday, the South African Police Service (SAPS) announced that a 44-year-old man believed to be the technician referred to in Parliament, had been arrested and is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
