Soccer coach accused of raping boys abandons bail

A 37-year-old soccer coach, accused of raping young boys, has abandoned his bail application in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court.

A 37-year-old soccer coach, who is accused of young raping boys, appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 May.

Alleged rapes spanned six months, the accused faces seven counts

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the accused allegedly committed the rapes between November 2022 and May 2023.

The 37-year-old faced seven counts of rape in court. He abandoned his bail application. The case was postponed to 26 June for further investigation.

“Today in court, he abandoned his application for bail, and the matter was remanded to 26 June 2023 for further investigations,” said the NPA spokesperson.

Soccer coach’s three victims allegedly came from one family

According to News24, the soccer coach was arrested for the alleged rape of three boys aged 11 and 15 from one family.

On Tuesday, eNCA reported that a fourth victim had opened a case against the accused, and family members are urging more community victims to open cases against the man.

The man, who runs an amateur soccer team in the Ntuzuma township, was arrested last week and made his first court appearance on Tuesday, 16 May.

The soccer coach cannot be named to protect the identities of the victims.
