Police said on Tuesday no arrests, after the bodies of five family members, including a six-year-old girl, were found on a farm near Harrismith.
Police said on Tuesday they still are investigating the murders of a family of five at Toekoms farm near Harrismith in the Free State.
No arrests have been made yet.
The bodies of five family members, including a six-year-old girl, were found on Saturday.
Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said a traditional healer who had an appointment with the family made the gruesome discovery.
“On arrival, apparently, the traditional healer noticed that the door was not locked. He knocked on the door, but there was no answer.”
Makhele said the traditional healer waited outside for a while, and when he saw that no one was coming he pushed the door and saw a hand protruding from the sitting-room door.
He went to alert the neighbour, and the police were informed.
“The bodies of Mgwenika John Twala- father ( 46), Sonto Selina Maloka-mother (41), Zama Maloka- son (20), Mfanafuthi Justine Maloka- son (17), and Nompumelelo Emily Maloka (6), were found with various stab wounds to the bodies suspected to have been inflicted with a sharp object. Thethorough girl is suspected of having been strangled as well.”
He added that a post mortem is still to be conducted so as to determine the exact cause of death.
“The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage and no one has been arrested. The matter has been assigned to the Provincial Organised Crime team for through investigation.”

Police are also investigating the murder of a 45-year-old man who was stabbed to death by his younger colleague on a farm in Hankey, Eastern Cape on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli said police have arrested the young colleague aged 19.
“Hankey police arrested a 19-year-old farm employee in connection with the murder of his 45-year-old colleague, which took place at a farm in Hankey on Sunday morning.”
