A child was saved from suffocation after he was trapped under his mother’s lifeless body – she was seen drinking the night before

Members of the community rescued a two-year-old boy after he was found suffocating under his mother’s lifeless body in Amaotana, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday, 29 April.

Child heard crying under mother’s lifeless body
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), a local security firm, received a call for assistance at approximately 12:13.
When they arrived on the scene, RUSA members were led to an informal home where they found the lifeless body of a 29-year-old woman.
According to neighbors, they heard the infant child crying for an extended period of time before they decided to investigate.

Woman last seen consuming alcohol
When they arrived at the house, they saw the child being suffocated by his mother, who was lying on top of him.
The woman and the child were covered in feces.
The community members immediately removed the boy from under his mother’s body and called for help.

Residents informed reaction officers that the woman was last seen last night consuming alcohol with members of the community.
Circumstances leading up to her death could not be immediately established.
