As of 7:24 on Wednesday, 3 November, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) Results Operation Centre in Tshwane, Gauteng has received the results of 64 percent of the votes cast in the 2021 Local Government Elections (LGE). Here’s an overview of the leading parties, according to the IEC Municipal election results dashboard.
At a briefing on Tuesday night, the IEC said it was pushing to finalise 90 percent of the vote by midnight. However, at that stage, it was quite clear that they would not.
CEO Sy Mamabolo said 78 percent of the total vote had been counted but they were still being processed – scanned and audited – before being added to the figures on the dashboard.
The dashboard was stuck at 58 percent for hours before jumping to 64 percent on Wednesday morning.
