The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has denied that the recall of provincial chairperson and Premier, Stanley Mathabatha, is imminent.

Limpopo ANC spokesperson assures that Mathabatha will serve a full term as Premier

Speculation over Mathabatha’s future as the head of the party and Limpopo provincial government has been rife ever since the ANC’s National Elective Conference in December 2022 when he made a last-minute decision to back former Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize’s bid for party leader.

Mkhize ultimately lost out to President Cyril Ramaphosa at Nasrec. Mathabatha’s own bid to make it into the party’s Top 7 also fell flat as he lost to Gwede Mantashe, who was re-elected as ANC Chairperson.

According to SABC News, the Limpopo ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) said they did not discuss Mathabatha’s removal in the recent meeting.

“The ANC has no plan to recall or to remove the Premier of Limpopo province who will serve his term until the end and there is no confusion about that. Those who may desire or wish to see him vacating his role as the Premier should take note that is not going to happen,” said Jimmy Machaka, the Limpopo ANC spokesperson.
