The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has warned that the current road resurfacing project on the M2 Motorway will last right up until the end of June – and TWO lanes on both carriageways will be shutdown during peak traffic hours.
The roadworks will be in place between Cleveland and Selby, to the south of Johannesburg’s CBD. Around 6km of road will have been refurbished by the end of the project, ensuring that local commuters can enjoy smoother journeys.
Alas, for that long term gain, there will have to be some short-term pain. We’ve summarised what these delays and lane shutdowns will mean for the M2 Motorway, as thousands of motorists gear up for a major change to their morning routines.
Perhaps anticipating the scale of the disruption, the JRA is pleading with motorists in Johannesbgurg to ‘exercise patience’ between now and the end of next month, stating that the safety of road users AND maintenance workers is paramount:
“Sectional road closures will be implemented on the shoulder lanes and slow lanes on both the aforementioned directions on the Motorway during roadworks. All other road lanes will be open to traffic. The resurfacing project is anticipated to be completed by the 30th of June 2022.”
“Motorists are urged to exercise caution and patience when approaching the roadworks sites to ensure their safety and that of the road workers. The JRA apologises for any inconvenience”
