Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube of KwaZulu-Natal has expressed heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the devastating floods that struck Ladysmith.

The calamity unfolded on Christmas Eve when incessant rains led to the Bellspruit River, flowing beneath the Mbonothu Bridge, breaching its banks. Consequently, water cascaded onto the N11 road near the Limit Hill robots in Ladysmith Town.

How many people died in the floods?

Tragically, six lives were lost, and another ten individuals remain missing, as reported by the provincial government.

In response to this crisis, search and rescue teams have mobilised, tirelessly scouring the affected area for survivors.

Premier Dube-Ncube conveyed her deep sorrow, stating, “It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of victims who lost their lives.”
