A KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) man is expected to make an appearance before the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 December 2021, for the most unthinkable of crimes: murdering an eight-month-old baby. It is believed that the child was later found buried in a shallow grave inside the suspect’s shack.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the province confirmed the 36-year-old suspect’s court appearance, which is in relation to the murder, which occurred on 17 December.

“It is alleged that on December 17, at Khululeka Street in Tsakane, an eight-month-old baby girl was killed by a known suspect. A 36-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for murder. He will appear in the Ladysmith magistrate’s court tomorrow [Monday],”

KZN MURDER: SOCIAL WORKERS SENT TO SLAIN BABY’S FAMILY

According to the KZN Department of Social Development, social workers will be sent to the family of the murdered eight-month-old to help them come to terms with her tragic killing.

“The MEC [Nonhlanhla Khoza] has condemned this horrendous act and sent out social workers to provide psychosocial services to the bereaved family,” the department’s spokesperson Mhlaba Memela said.

The department says the child was murdered by someone known to her, shortly after he had an argument with some of the family members.

“He fled with the baby after an argument and family members were concerned that he might hurt the baby because he was angry when he left. They went to report the matter to the police but sadly when they arrived at his shack, he had already killed the baby and buried her in a shallow grave,”

The tragedy sadly comes as the country has just concluded the 16 Days of Activism campaign against the abuse of women and children. Brutal crimes of this nature are sadly happening more common than we’d appreciate to know. A 28-year-old Limpopo man was recently arrested for raping and strangling a six-year-old at Praktiseer township outside Burgersfort. According to SABC News, Boikgathatso Komape was allegedly lured into the suspect’s house where she was allegedly raped before being strangled.
