GODONGWANA TO BE SWORN IN AS MP

Godongwana is one of the two non-MP cabinet ministers Ramaphosa has appointed—the other is Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel.

By law, Ramaphosa can only appoint two non-MPs as ministers. The move suggests the President is making room to appoint another non-MP to his cabinet.

According to News24, Ramaphosa is looking to appoint an “outsider” as the Minister of Electricity in the Presidency.

The publication reports that the ANC National Office has asked the party’s Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) to ask one of its MPs to step down and create space for Godongwana to be sworn in.

According to reports, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, who is currently the head of investment and infrastructure in the Presidency, is the frontrunner for the Electricity Minister position.
