Father and stepmother accused of killing a 8-year-old child

A father and stepmother aged 31 and 35 have been arrested in connection to the murder of their 8-year-old child in Limpopo.

Limpopo police have arrested a couple aged 31 and 35 in connection with the death of an eight-year-old child.

Father and stepmother allegedly killed their child

According to SowetanLive, the South African Police Services (SAPS) in Limpopo have arrested a couple aged 31 and 35 in connection with the death of an eight-year-old girl.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the child was staying with her stepmother and her biological father at Mogaung village in the Sekhukhune district.

Community members became concerned the child was being physically abused by her parents, Ledwaba said.

On Wednesday, they ascertained the victim was seriously injured after being physically assaulted.

The community sought medical assistance and she was rushed by ambulance to the nearest hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Ledwaba said the pair is due to appear in the Nebo magistrate’s court on Friday.

In related news, six family members were sentenced to a combined 16 life terms and 110-year prison term for “gruesome” crimes against children.

The six consist of a foster couple, aged 70 and 69, along with their four relatives who were collectively convicted of 20 counts of sexual offences against three minors aged between four and nine.

According to NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the offences occurred from 2005 until 2010 when they were arrested.

“Some of the charges they were convicted of were rape, indecent assault, compelled rape, compelled sexual assault, witness sexual acts, sexual grooming as well as child abuse and neglect,” she said.
