McKaiser’s manager, Jackie Strydom, confirmed his death on Tuesday. She told TimesLive, to which the deceased was a regular contributor in recent times, that Eusebius suffered a suspected epileptic seizure.

Eusebius’s alma mater Rhodes University said he was born in Grahamstown (now Makhanda) “to a family of little means.”

He enrolled at the university for a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Philosophy in 1997, and eventually obtained an honours and master’s degree in philosophy, both with distinction.

His byline has appeared in publications such as the New York Times, Business Day, Mail & Guardian, Sunday Times, Sunday Independent, City Press, and more.

“As a political activist, what matters to him is getting to grips with the social and political topics that impact on our lives, and making people sit up and take notice of this.,” wrote the university.

“His activism is something that defines his life and he writes widely in the local and international press and has a particular interest in questions of identity and their policy implications.”
