Brace yourselves! Eskom has announced it will be implementing Stage 2 load shedding on Tuesday afternoon, 12 April 2022 at 17:00.

The embattled power utility re-introduced stage 2 the power cuts on Monday evening just after 18:00, citing a shortage of generation capacity, but this was only until 05:00 the next morning.

“As previously communicated, loadshedding was suspended at 05:00 this morning. However, due to the continued shortage of generation capacity, Eskom regrets to inform the public that Stage 2 load shedding will again be implemented from 17:00 this evening. Load shedding will then be suspended at 05:00 on Wednesday,” said spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.

EXPECT MORE LOAD SHEDDING IN THE COMING DAYS

More bad news is that there is a great chance of load shedding continuing through the week, should Eskom’s capacity constraints continue.

“Eskom would like to inform the public that this constrained supply situation will persist throughout the week, with the possibility that more loadshedding is likely to be implemented should the generation capacity deteriorate further”

The utility says one unit at its Medupi Power station returned to service during the night, while three generating units at the Camden Power Station tripped, contributing to the current shortage of capacity. Eskom adds that its teams are working hard to return as many of these units to service as possible.

“We are managing the emergency generation reserves to limit the stage of loadshedding. The overnight loadshedding will be used to replenish the dam level at the pump storage power stations in preparation for the remainder of the week”

“Eskom would like to apologise for the implementation of loadshedding and would like to reiterate that loadshedding is implemented only as a last resort in order to protect the national grid. We will communicate should there be any significant changes to the supply situation”
