WILL SOUTH AFRICA GET LOAD SHEDDING ON NEW YEAR’S DAY?

For now, Eskom has urged South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly to avoid implementing higher stages of load shedding. The latest announcement by the embattled power utility means the country will likely enter the New Year in the dark.

Eskom suspended load shedding on Christmas Day, but it isn’t clear if the same will happen on 1 January 2023.

“The suspension of loadshedding on Christmas day is only possible due to the lower demand for electricity. Eskom appeals to all electricity users to conserve as much electricity as possible during this period. The generation fleet remains unpredictable and vulnerable. Should there be multiple failures of generators, a higher stage of loadshedding may need to be implemented at short notice,” the utility said.
