Dr Nandipha Magudumana was asked by the State prosecutor to show her face in court to confirm her identity on Monday.

Dr Nandipha Magudumana was forced to show her face in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 April.
Magudumana shows her face in court
During her first appearance last week, Magudumana was fully covered up in a baggy hoodie. She also wore a K95 COVID-19 mask. Her outfit on Monday was similar.
The State prosecutor requested that she show her face so he could be sure that the right person was in court. The Magistrate acceded to the request despite protests from Magudumana’s legal representative.
Thabo Bester’s lover briefly showed her face before covering up again. The Magistrate asked her to confirm she was indeed the individual who appeared before him last week, which she did.
Proceedings continue. It is likely that the matter will be postponed to next month for the accused to apply for bail.
They face charges related to Bester’s escape in May 2022, including defeating the ends of justice and aiding and abetting a prisoner to escape. Some of the accused were also charged with murder.
