The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate extends a crucial advisory to motorists and pedestrians, announcing the prolonged closure of Jameson Street in Bellville.

This closure, spanning from Jip de Jager Drive to Cameronians Avenue, will persist until 10 December 2023, as a consequence of ongoing roadworks associated with the transformation of Jip de Jager Drive into a dual carriageway.

This project, integral to the City’s Congestion Management Strategy, is anticipated to bring much-needed relief to traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.

Councillor Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility, underscores the significance of the project in enhancing the city’s transportation infrastructure.

Motorists encouraged to explore alternative routes in Cape Town

“To navigate this temporary disruption, motorists are encouraged to explore alternative routes. Options include Dragoon Avenue, Jorgensens Avenue, Van Riebeeckshof Road, Cameronians Avenue, Wylant Street, Chavonne Street, Mara Street, and Pandoer Street,” said Quintas.

The City has taken proactive measures by implementing visible road closure and detour signage, guiding drivers through these alternative paths.
Residents and commuters utilising this stretch of road should be aware of several advisories.

Traffic in both directions will be affected, with scheduled roadworks occurring from 07:30 to 17:30, Monday through Saturday.
