City Offers R5000 Reward for Information Leading to Arrests in the Wake of Shooting of Electricity Official

The City’s MayCo Member for Energy, Councillor Beverley van Reenen, condemned the electricity official’s shooting and called on residents to assist by reporting any and all suspicious behaviour.

‘We absolutely condemn these acts and are committed to putting an end to this shameful criminality. Cape Town cannot be a city where the lives of the very officials who are providing essential services to its residents are at risk. We will always do our utmost to provide services but not at the expense of our service delivery teams,” said van Reenen.

Van Reenen said criminality directly impacts service delivery, and law-abiding citizens might suffer supply loss as a result.

The Senior Superintendent was shot while on his way home from work at the Gugulethu Depot. The City is offering a R5000 reward to members of the public who are able to provide information that leads to an arrest, confiscation of stolen or illegal goods or the handing in of illegal or stolen goods.

The reward also applies to information that could lead to the arrest of people who vandalise and damage infrastructure and steal electricity.

Damage to municipal electrical infrastructure can be reported via SMS at 31220 or email at power@capetown.gov.za

Anonymous tip-offs can be made via the 0800-1100-77 hotline.
