Cabinet reshuffle: Ramaphosa to officiate swearing-in of new members of national executive

Ramaphosa will swear-in new members of his National Executive on Tuesday evening following his announcement of a cabinet reshuffle.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will officially welcome the new members of his National Executive on Tuesday evening, 7 March, at his Tuynhuys, his office in Cape Town.

RAMAPHOSA TO SWEAR IN NEW MINISTERS ON TUESDAY

Ramaphosa announced the changes to his cabinet on Monday night, 7 March. Three ministers got the chop, but two more portfolios were added to an already bloated cabinet – the Minister of Electricity, which was first announced at SONA, and the Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation.

Chief Justice Raymond Zondo will preside over the swearing-in ceremony, expected to take place at 18:00.

Here is the list of ministerial changes made by the president:

  • Minister of Electricity in the Presidency – Kgosientsho Ramokgopa (new)
  • Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation – Maropene Ramokgopa (new)
  • Minister of Tourism – Patricia de Lille (replaces Lindiwe Sisulu, who was axed)
  • Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture – Zizi Kodwa (replaces Nathi Mthethwa, who was axed)
  • Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities – Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma (replaces Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, who was axed)
  • Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies – Mondli Gungunbele
  • Minister in the Presidency – Khumbudzo Ntshavheni
  • Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure – Sihle Zikalala
  • Minister of Transport – Sindiswe Chikunga (replaces Fikile Mbalula, who takes up a full-time position as ANC SG)
  • Minister of Public Service and Administration – Noxolo Kiviet (vacant).
  • Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs – Tembi Nkadimeng

As expected, ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile was appointed as deputy president of South Africa. His predecessor David Mabuza resigned last week.

“The President announced changes to the National Executive on Monday, 06 March 2023, to ensure that Government is properly capacitated to give effect to the commitments made in the State of the Nation Address and the Budget Speech,” said Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya.
