Beaufort West ANC Councillor caught with bank cards belonging to others granted R500 bail

An ANC Councillor in Beaufort West, Jason Mdudumani, has been granted R500 bail after being charged with contravening the National Credit Act.

An ANC Councillor in Beaufort West, Jason Mdudumani, appeared before the local Magistrate’s Court on charges related to the contravention of the National Credit Act on Thursday, 6 April.

Investigation into loan shark allegations against ANC Councillor in Beaufort West continues

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Western Cape, Eric Ntabazalila, said the ANC Councillor was caught in possession of bank cards belonging to other people.

He is accused of being a loan shark, or as the NPA put it, enforcing credit agreements while he is not a financial services provider. Mdudumani was also found with a number of identity documents.

The ANC Councillor was granted R500 bail. His next appearance is expected on 22 May.

The investigation continues.

Opposition party demands action from ANC after Councillor’s arrest

As previously reported, the DA’s  Constituency Head in Beaufort West, Daylin Mitchell, said the party would write to the Western Cape MEC for Community Safety and Police Oversight, Reagen Allen, to request a court-watching brief.

“South Africans have become used to the way in which the ANC deals with cases of criminality within their ranks. We will closely monitor this matter, and call on the ANC to act decisively and not sweep this under the rug,” said Mitchell.
