ANC Councillor arrested for alleged statutory rape of teenage boys

A 40-year-old ANC Councillor in the North West was arrested for the statutory rape of two 15-year-old boys.

A 40-year-old ANC Councillor in the North West faces charges of statutory rape and crimen injuria after he allegedly sexually assaulted two teenage boys.

ANC Councillor Arrested After Parents of Teenage Boys Open Case Against Him

The councillor, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victims, was arrested on after the boys’ parents opened a case against him on Saturday, the North West police said to News24.

North West police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone asked the public not to circulate sexually explicit videos and photos of what looks like the councillor, which popped up on social media last week.

The ANC councillor faces two counts of statutory rape as well as crimen injuria. As previously reported by The South African, the ANC in the North West suspended the councillor with immediate effect over sexual misconduct and the circulating videos.

The party said it also received several complaints against the councillor from various women.

“This type of behaviour goes against our values and commitment to building a cohesive society in which all people are treated with respect and dignity. We will therefore not stand idle when such tendencies rear their ugly face. We will act immediately and swiftly to root out such behaviour,” said North West provincial secretary Louis Diremelo in a statement.

The ANC named the councillor in the statement.
