The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have gathered outside Brackenfell High School in an effort to rid the country of racism. This comes after a party was organised for matrics but failed to include non-white learners. The school since released a statement distancing itself from the gathering, adding that the party was a private event.

EFF members and supporters have since been meet with rubber bullets, tear gas, water cannons, stun grenades and blue liquid, as well as, counter protesters. There has also been an issue around how many protesters were there as permission was only granted to the EFF provided 100 members gathered.

Law enforcement officials later agreed to allow the EFF an assembly of 500 people. In the meantime, other protesters from the Cape Party and ACDP were turned away from Brackenfell High School by police, as they failed to acquire the correct paperwork.

The EFF took to social media saying that black people can’t breathe in their own land.

“Colonial Settlers continue to have their knees on our necks. This must end. South African Police have conspired with racist whites, trying to prevent our free movement in the land of our fore-bearers.”

“SAPS have once again displayed what we always say, ‘Black life is cheap’. The last time we were here they stood by and watched a Black woman being beaten with a bat. Today they are quick to shoot water cannons and firing stun-grenades at a peaceful protest.”
