Bounty of slain Gqeberha doctor was R500 000

Witness denies that the accused was assaulted into making a confession that she had been plotting since 2021 to have her husband killed

The investigative officer in the case of a murdered Gqeberha doctor has revealed in court that his son and ex-wife had plotted his murder. The victims ex wife Nothukela Ethel Noqekwa hired co accused Andile Jongi and Siyabulela Gcayiya to carry out the hit for a hefty R500 000.

Dr Bantu Noqekwa was gunned down in his surgery in early May. 

Testifying at the New Brighton Magistrates Court, sergeant Sibulelo Yali says that the doctors eldest child Khanyisa Noqekwa became aware of his mother’s plot after she allegedly told him them that the doctor had a hit out on her.

Defense attorney Bongo Mvinjelwa put it to the officer that Noqekwa had been assaulted into making a confession. An allegation which Yali denied.

The court heard that the hitmen received a partial payment of R6 000 in order to visit a traditional healer who will help them cleanse themselves of the doctor’s blood. 

Noqekwa has applied for bail while her co accused abandoned their bail application. 

Yali says Noqekwa is a flight risk as she fled to Cape Town after being interviewed by the police three times and failed to inform authorities. 

The trial will resume on Tuesday, 11 July.
