Build One SA (BOSA) has reminded former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter of active criminal charges against him should he fail to disclose everything about Eskom’s corruption.

FORMER ESKOM CEO ANDRE DE RUYTER TO APPEAR BEFORE SCOPA

Tomorrow, Wednesday, 26 April, former Eskom CEO de Ruyter will appear before the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) to elaborate on the explosive revelations he made about corruption at Eskom during a television interview in February this year.

De Ruyter publicly disclosed that, during the course and scope of his position of authority at Eskom, he had personal knowledge of corruption, theft and fraud from both within, and outside of Eskom.

In particular, Mr de Ruyter stated that a certain Cabinet Minister had indicated that corruption was a by-product of delivering on the Eskom mandate.

“Just last week, President Ramaphosa told Parliament he doesn’t know and doesn’t plan to find out, which ministers allegedly looted Eskom. This dereliction of duty by the President is abhorrent and shows signs of both moral and leadership deficiency.”

BOSA CONVINCING DE RYTER TO DO THE RIGHT THING

Given this, BOSA believes there is now even greater impetus for Mr De Ruyter to fully disclose every detail he has been made aware of.

“BOSA leader Mmusi Maimane formally opened a criminal case with the South African Police Service (SAPS) on 27 February to ensure the immoral and corrupt politicians siphoning money out of Eskom for themselves are investigated, prosecuted and, when found guilty, sentenced to prison,” said BOSA National spokesperson Sbu Zondi.

“Colonel LJ Kekana, the Unit Commander of Johannesburg Serious Corruption Investigation at the Hawks, has confirmed in writing that the matter is under investigation,” he added.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF CORRUPTION AT THE POWER UTILITY

“The people of South Africa are without electricity for up to 10 hours a day due to these very acts of corruption. Now is not the time for your obfuscation and ambiguity. But for full transparency Mr De Ruyter,” Zondi further urged.

“BOSA will do all it can to support and expedite the criminal investigation that is currently underway, and we urge Mr De Ryter to join us in this endeavour.” BOSA spokesperson concluded.
