Bogus ‘Dr’ Matthew returns to social media

Only a week following the Gauteng Health Department’s legal action against bogus ‘Dr’ Matthew Lani, he has reappeared on TikTok under a new account.

There, he continues to sell weight-loss pills and offer medical advice, according to Times Live.

Bogus ‘Dr’ Matthew returns to social media and apologizes for delays

Surprisingly, despite a filed case, Lani remains unarrested. In a recent TikTok live session, he asserted government employment and advised on HIV treatment.

He apologized for slimming pill delivery delays, stating his emotional rollercoaster journey and current mental stability.

When followers inquired about his absence from the hospital, he clarified that the videos were recorded over two years, not depicting daily hospital life.

The Department denies ‘issued apology’

Recently, a screenshot appeared claiming that the health department had issued an apology to Lani, causing confusion.

However, the department clarified that it was a fake message meant to mislead the public and promised to involve the police in further investigations.

In the previous week, the Health Department had taken legal action against Lani for infiltrating Helen Joseph Hospital, posing as an intern, and creating content while wearing scrubs and a doctor’s name badge, which he then shared on social media.

The Health Professions Council of South Africa confirmed that Lani was not a registered health practitioner, and Wits University, where he claimed to have earned a medical degree, stated that he did not graduate from their institution.
