A gruesome murder scene has rocked the Eastern Cape. The body of a 23-year-old female student was recently found in a suitcase in Quigney, East London. Not only is it Women’s Month but to make matters worse, there was a black bag next to the suitcase that contained other body parts.

SAPS Crime Prevention members were patrolling at Fitzpatrick Road on Thursday 19 August 2021 in the morning when they were stopped by a motorist informing them about a body that was seen in a suitcase.

On their arrival at the corner of Fleet Street and Fitzpatrick road a suitcase with a body of a 23-year-old female was found, next to it was a black bag with other body parts.

25-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT, SUPPOSEDLY LINKED TO EAST LONDON MURDER, ARRESTED

While at the scene, police received information that a 25-year-old suspect believed to be linked to the murder was found and immediately arrested.

“On further investigation which led the police to the house where the two lived, a plastic bag with other parts of the body was also discovered,” said Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and the deceased were in a relationship and have lived together for some time.

Further reports suggest that the deceased was a law student at Fort Hare University in East London.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has strongly condemned the acts of brutality on the young woman.

“This is one of the devastating scenes women do not want to see during this Women’s Month. The incident represents a manifestation of the stubbornness of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide incidents which are endemic within our society” said Ntshinga.

Once the suspect is charged, he is expected to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Friday 20 August 2021 on a murder charge.

WOMAN HOSPITALISED AFTER BRUTAL RAPE AND ASSAULT

Apart from the gruesome murder in East London, a 33-year-old woman from Thembalethu near George in the Western Cape had to be hospitalised after her 38-year-old partner brutally attacked her in their home on Monday 16 August 2021.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had an argument at their residence in Thembalethu on 16 August 2021 in the early evening.

“The suspect allegedly accused her of having an affair whereafter he started to assault her. He left the house to have drinks elsewhere and returned at about 21:30. He then continued to assault her by hitting her with a hammer against her head and also hit her with different objects,” said Pojie.

It is also understood that the woman was raped.

Pojie said the victim later managed to escape and seek help from neighbours who then alerted the police. The man has been arrested and is due to appear in court on Thursday.
